The Internet of Things

Internet of Things

IoT is a common term that is used and misunderstood by many, but quite simply it is another way of describing the “Integration of Things”. The real value is in the data and the insights that can be derived from the collected data. Data is the new oil.

It has been an exciting month for MOQdigital as we assist Microsoft Australia with the Azure IoT Suite launch at the Microsoft Ignite event. This coincides with the Microsoft worldwide launch of Azure IoT Suite and Cortana Analytics which are core focus areas for MOQdigital.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is the Integration of devices, physical objects or "things" embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity, which enables these objects to collect and exchange data.

The Azure Internet of Things (IoT) Suite uses Azure capabilities to connect devices and other "Things", capture their data, integrate and orchestrate data flow and manage, analyse and present it so people can take smarter decisions and operations can be automated in an intelligent manner.

Cortana Analytics Suite is an advanced analytics suite that enables you to transform big data into smart actions. Cortana Analytics is a true enabler for new business models.

To our customers, integration means something different each time we implement a solution but they all have one goal in common – to gain business insights to their data through real-time analytics and machine learning, so they can make informed decisions.

MOQdigital continues to drive innovation in Australia by solving real world challenges for our customers to improve business outcomes. For one customer, Laing O’Rourke, this meant access to real-time data collected from a smart hard-hat, to ensure the continued safety of employees as they work under tough climatic conditions.

“Safety of our staff is paramount to Laing O'Rourke; we want to make sure people go home safely every single day,” said Ryan Macnamee, the company’s global CIO.  “And because of the climate in Australia, one of our issues we have is heatstroke; and the problem with heatstroke, by the time you feel the symptoms, you already have heatstroke, so you need to have been warned well before you are exhibiting symptoms.”
