Congratulations to the MOQdigital team in Sri Lanka who recently won the 2018 CERT Hacking Challenge! This is the second time our team has managed to win the competition, and have been among the top three competitors for the past three years.
Hacking events are designed to challenge competitors to exploit and defend system vulnerabilities across multiple IT environments. They are a great way to test how teams respond to threats, and how they identify pain points within a business. With cyber security and digital risks becoming a hot topic in the market – and indeed, a significant threat to all companies adapting to the evolving technological landscape, it is crucial for IT teams to test their skills in a safe and fun environment that pushes their limits and allows them to put their abilities to the test.
The CERT Hacking Challenge, organised by CERT|CC – the Computer Emergency Readiness Team and Coordination Centre, is the leading cyber security event in Sri Lanka. CERT is a trusted source regarding the threats and vulnerabilities affecting a modern, digitally driven market, and their hacking competitions consists of challenges across various cyber security domains. Other competitors this year included three groups from the Sri Lankan Armed Forces, as well as teams from corporations across the private sector. Participants were challenged in technical, analytical, and time management skills, testing how they respond to the threats that affect organisations on a daily basis. They were expected to penetrate hacking environments and capture ‘flags’, with the team who captured the most flags being crowned the winner.
We are proud of the MOQdigital team in Sri Lanka, and are glad to have them flying our team colours! The skills they used to win the CERT Challenge are fundamental to their core role in the MOQdigital SOC, where investigations into attacks on client networks, users, and data are completed on a daily basis. We look forward to growth and success with our community and are excited to face the challenges that 2019 and the years beyond have in store.
