Needs

Terrace has a long heritage of gearing their technology infrastructure, solutions, and applications toward providing highly available and cost-effective services to staff and students across all campuses. Their current highly available Data Centre architecture existed between two physically separate locations, as that was the only way to get full redundancy and availability when it was implemented five years prior.

However, technology had advanced to provide better, smarter, and more cost-effective solutions and the school wanted to adopt a new architecture that could take advantage of these advancements – especially since their existing data-centre service contract was coming to an end.

The new architecture needed to support Terrace’s ever-increasing peak time operational loads, such those experienced during assessment periods, while continuing to retain the same level of efficiency and redundancy that their existing architecture afforded.

Outcomes

After partnering with MOQdigital, Terrace has been able to achieve their primary goal of providing high quality education services without having to worry about the intricacies of their IT systems. MOQdigital’s approach to the use of a hybrid cloud on Azure builds upon Terrace’s heritage of reliability with a mature, stable IT environment.

As they were able to remove their entire physical Data Centre, Terrace has been able to realise the benefits of a hybrid cloud at a significantly lower cost compared to previous Data Centre configurations. The updated capabilities from Azure Hybrid Cloud will allow Terrace to apply new technologies, enabling easy integration of cutting edge network solutions that will continue to keep Terrace in the top 2% of Queensland schools.

The cost savings from the Hybrid Cloud will help with budgeting in the face of new financing changes affecting Australian Independent Schools.

The Solution

After examining Terrace’s existing data centres, MOQdigital recommended a hybrid cloud solution that enabled IT staff to focus on delivering education solutions, such as PowerBI. This would help the school to predict student success, rather than maintaining IT infrastructure. MOQdigital removed unnecessary connections and physical devices and data centres, resulting in significant cost savings of up to $8000 per month.

These savings could be used to facilitate new budgeting requirements associated with new funding schemes impacting independent schools. Greater security with Microsoft Azure Data Loss Prevention (DLP) was also implemented, and Azure was used to improve network redundancies. This reduced the risk of data loss, and improved education network system availability and reliability.
